Rotary Club of Matthews Awards $11,000 to Local Nonprofits

The Rotary Club of Matthews recently announced six local nonprofit organizations as this year’s fundraiser beneficiaries. This year’s beneficiaries include Matthews Free Medical Clinic, COS Kids, Inner Wheel, Matthews Help Center, Covenant Day School’s ContainIt project, and Levine Senior Center.

Each of the local nonprofits will be using the funds to impact others. The Matthews Free Medical Clinic plans to purchase medical equipment to benefit its patients, the Levine Senior Center plans to purchase new tables for their facility, and the Matthews Help Center will use the funds to provide budget counseling to its clients who have fallen into financial crisis. COS Kids has asked that the Matthews Rotary Club serve as the official sponsor of their Single Parent Life Skills classes, which empowers, ministers to, and advocates for the unique needs of single parents. Inner Wheel will use the funds to support its national foundation to provide limbs for children as well as purchase supplies to make pillows for breast cancer patients. Covenant Day School’s ContainIt team will use the funds to purchase a shipping container, which will be transformed into livable space for those in need of safe housing on Pine Ridge Reservation.

The Rotary Club of Matthews, chartered in 1980, has given hundreds of thousands of dollars back to nonprofits in the community. The club also gives back to the community through a variety of service projects each year including their bi-annual Steam Cleanup project and the Veteran’s luncheon honoring local veterans for their service.
